This sort of art is utterly useless to the world, for it denies the world itself as a transient petrie dish of suffering and aimless, constantly unsatisfied desires for pleasure. The world itself can't accept this denunciation of its own importance; therefore it invents Hegel. So art must present the most sublime sensuality in the service of denying its materiality; through seeing the transcendent in the quotidian, it provides a way out. If this is an escape, it is an escape from the meaninglessness of suffering into the experience of a higher epiphany: the self-negating denial of culture and materiality. (quelle)
